It really doesn't waste that much time, and it's good to have a place to put those little thoughts you have throughout the day without writing them down.

It's a floor wax and a dessert topping.

*snort* Thanks for making me giggle.

You're welcome :)

I seem to recall having the same dilemma about cell phones back around 2000. Since having adopted the cell phone for a while now, the intrusion seems less, but while it could be that it's really more on the "useful communication" end of the dichotomy, it could also merely be because I've been wearing its oppressive yoke for so long that I've ceased to notice it.

I agree--I got my first cell phone in 2000, following many situations in which it would have saved me grief to have had one. (For example, my apt building was being renovated, causing me to lose home phone service frequently.) It can be intrusive, but I've gotten to the point where I don't feel obliged to drop what I'm doing and answer it. Caller ID helps w/ that too!

I haven't tried it, so I don't have any opinion on Twitter itself. However, those LJ-feed Tweet thingamabobs? I'm admittedly a cranky Luddite, but IMHO those suckers seldom hold much -- if any -- interest for anyone other than the poster. It's especially irksome if you have to click through an LJ cut to find three lines of in-joke directed at one specific correspondent, so please don't do that if you get absorbed by the collective, ok? :)

Yeah, LoudTweets is incomprehensible. If I am assimilated and want a record of everything on my LJ, I'll make it private.

Indispensible. LJ and gmail are blocked at work for me and I don't own an iphone yet.

I can't argue with that! Do you at least get a Crackberry for work?

I'll be getting one soon. However, it has to be STRICTLY for work. Everything I type at work is now subject to FOIA requests.

Guess that rules out Facebook and LJ :-(

Oh yeah.

Honestly, the only thing I allow myself is news.google.com and google reader rss feeds.

The twitter website isn't blocked, but I'm not going to be typing anything on that computer that isn't work related. Annoying, but I realize the necessity to keep it like this.

All the better to avoid embarrassing scandals, right?
